How to play

Clean. Improve. Sell. Expand. Automate.

Space Scrubbers starts with a toothbrush and ends with a factory. In between lies a moon that gets clean by hand, one stroke at a time.

  1. 01

    Clean

Brush away the dust and watch the ground appear beneath it. Every sweep uncovers more stones and valuable minerals.

  2. 02

    Improve

From toothbrush to vacuum cleaner: unlock better tools and a bigger canister. Make a little more progress with every trip.

  3. 03

    Sell

Even moon dust has value. Load your finds onto the rocket and send them to Earth to sell. Put the earnings towards your next purchase.

  4. 04

    Expand

Expand your base, buy vehicles and build factories. Conveyor belts carry the dust you collect to where it is needed.

  5. 05

    Automate

Let vacuum robots clean for you and helpers tend the greenhouse. Spend more time exploring the moon and planning your next expansion.

Cleaning that feels right

Cleaning that feels right

Every sweep leaves a visible trail. Grey dust gives way to clean ground, from a tiny patch to a whole section of the moon.

Tools and vehicles

Tools and vehicles

Find the right tool for the job: brush small patches, vacuum up stones or climb into the sweeper truck to clear wide paths.

Co-op for 1 to 8

Co-op for 1 to 8

Play solo or with up to seven friends in co-op. Share the work, talk to each other and decide together how to spend your earnings.

A rocket to Earth

A rocket to Earth

Your link to Earth: the rocket takes collected dust and minerals away to sell. Once it returns, the next load can be sent off.

The base

The base

Your home on the moon grows with you. Pick up equipment, customise your astronaut and enjoy the view from the lookout tower.

Factory and conveyor belts

Factory and conveyor belts

Make more of your finds. Factories turn dust into new products while conveyor belts handle the transport.

Vacuum robots

Vacuum robots

Give your vacuum robots an area to clean. They work on their own and return to their dock to unload and recharge.

Day, night and power

Day, night and power

As the sun sets, your base lights up. Collect solar energy during the day and store it to keep things running at night.

Your path to better equipment

Your path to better equipment

Choose your next improvement on the star map. New tools and abilities help you find your own way to play.

Achievements and sectors

Achievements and sectors

Every clean area earns a reward. Collect achievements and watch small steps add up to a clean moon.

Minerals

Minerals

Crystals and ores lie beneath the dust. Uncover and sell your finds. Some are especially valuable.

Planet map

Planet map

Keep track of your progress: the map shows where dust remains and where your friends, vehicles and robots are.

The mission

A moon full of dust.

Explore craters and hills, watch the sunset and leave your mark in the dust. You can walk across the entire moon. Your goal: get it completely clean before the crew sets off on its next adventure.

New features, improvements and fixes, update by update.

  1. NewUpdate

New HUD, live map, onboarding, products

A round after the fourth co-op playtest: displays, map, onboarding, economy and several buildings.

    New

    • Moon card: A card above the minimap shows the time, finished and remaining sectors and the cleaned share of the moon.
    • Minerals: Carried minerals appear as coloured chips with a count under the container.
    • Control hints: After every tool change, the keys of the tool in hand appear briefly as key caps next to the equipment bar, also for vehicles and the watering can.
    • Minimap from the start: The minimap is there in every world right away; Radar, Radar II and Radar III each unlock a further zoom level, the last one 300 m.
    • Live view on the planet map: Below about 80 m the map fades into the real world seen from above: terrain, dust, buildings, conveyor belts, vehicles, vacuum robots and players, by day and night. Places, players, robots and sectors can be chosen there as on the globe; zoomed out the map shows again which sectors are still to be cleaned.
    • Camera flight: A new world opens with a short flight from the launch pad past the rocket into the hall; any key skips it.
    • Hint cards: In a new world, cards show the first steps one at a time until each goal is done: cleaning, emptying, the rocket launch, the star map, the tool rack, sectors. They can be dismissed one by one and switched off in the settings.
    • Track several achievements: Up to three achievements can be tracked at once; each gets a compact row under the minimap with badge, next tier and progress.
    • Vacuum robots find their way: Vacuum robots plan their way round buildings, foundations, belts, masts, vehicles and players and no longer drive onto foundations or the base's plates. A robot that gets stuck all the same backs off, plans again and at last hops to the nearest free spot.
    • Reset a robot: A chosen robot can be reset on the planet map; it then stands beside its station with its tank and battery.
    • Factory products earn coins: A rocket launch sells the factory products in storage too; a dust block earns twice its dust, glass, filament and oxygen bottles a little more than theirs. In the station control, each product kind can be set to sell or to keep for the star map.

    Improved

    • Notices: Messages are smaller, fit their text, stay at least four seconds and queue up instead of overwriting each other; warnings are highlighted in orange.
    • Goal line: The line next to the balance names the next tool on the star map with the price of the way there.
    • Screen edge: The top left of the screen is clear; the co-op status sits small at the bottom left.
    • Signs: The signs above the stations are smaller and appear only up close; the hookup masts no longer carry one.
    • Planet map: The map zooms down to 30 m in finer steps than before; dragging in the close view moves the ground with the mouse.
    • Launch console: The console screen shows the sold and the kept products, and the revenue includes them.
    • Merger: The merger now carries a glass lantern with a rotor like the splitter; three blue arms mark the inputs, an orange one the output, and the arrows on the ports stay in plain view.
    • Ramps: Ramps no longer end with an edge at the foot; the deck runs into the ground, so players and vehicles get up and down without snagging.
    • Tool shop: The counter in the hall is newly furnished, with a terminal, a card reader, shelves with spare parts and a price screen on the wall.
    • Hand tools: The toothbrush, hand brush and vacuum cleaner stay above ground and dust even while held; walking through dust lifts the head onto the dust layer instead of gliding through it, and the vacuum cleaner rests closer and higher.
    • Disc brushes: The sweeper truck's disc brushes are about a fifth smaller, the sweeper's a little smaller, the rollers longer; the vehicles' width talents add up to +30 % instead of +54 %, so the discs stay handy even with every talent.
    • Robot stations: Robots wait outside a station's lane, and the one next in line docks first; several robots plan their work one after another instead of all at once, and the game no longer stutters while they do.
    • Vehicle cleaning front: The cleaned front of the sweeper truck and the sweeper follows the brushes, around the disc brushes and back to the roller between them, instead of stopping as a straight line in front of the roller.

    Fixed

    • Achievements: The achievements Cartographer, World tour and Together counted the starting place or the player alone in a new world; every counter now starts at zero.
  2. MenusVehiclesBuilding

Clearer menus, better equipment and multiple saves

Menus and equipment are easier to use. New displays help with choosing tools and expanding the base.

    New

    • Custom controls: Keyboard, mouse and controller buttons can be reassigned. In-game hints follow the chosen controls.
    • Multiple saves: New games are saved separately. An overview shows each company, day and cleaning progress.
    • Ramps: Vehicles can now reach raised building platforms.

    Improved

    • Menus: The main menu and pause menu have clearer layouts. Settings and important game information are easier to find.
    • Star map: This is the new name for the abilities overview. Paths to new tools are clearer, with a recommendation leading to the hand broom.
    • Tool rack and garage: Tools and vehicles are displayed with their properties. Each player can gradually expand their canister without losing its contents.
    • Vehicles: The push sweeper and sweeper truck have been reworked and can be used from either side. The push sweeper clears wider paths.
    • Base and factories: Buildings and displays have been improved. Factory information explains output and resource use more clearly.

    Fixed

    • Buildings stand upright on the base and launch platforms.
    • Vehicle displays and factory parts appear correctly.
    • The password for a shared game is visible before joining.
  3. Performance

    Smoother cleaning and driving

A performance pass after the fourth co-op playtest. The look of cleaning is unchanged.

    Improved

    • Cleaning: Cleaning with the toothbrush, hand brush and vacuum cleaner no longer stutters at a regular beat.
    • Vehicles: The sweeper truck and the sweeper clean at a much higher frame rate; the frame time while driving is almost halved.
    • Station control: The star map on the monitor redraws only when something on it changes and rests while nobody stands at the monitor.
    • Displays: The compass, the minimap and the equipment bar take less processing time, with no change to what they show.
    • Figures: Fellow players, robots and the figures in the gallery cost less, especially at a distance.
    • Shadows: The "Medium" and "Low" settings draw shadows up to 100 m and 80 m instead of 150 m, easing weaker graphics cards; "High" is unchanged.
